VOLLEYBALL
Bobcats win in three
Bella Gill delivered 11 kills as Aberdeen notched its first volleyball win by topping Tenino, 25-11, 25-21, 26-24, in a non-league contest Wednesday at Sam Benn Gym.
Hailee Baretch added eight kills and three blocks and was cited by Bobcat coach Doug Basler for a strong performance as a middle blocker. Jaylyn McDaniel tallied 23 assists and also enjoyed a perfect serving night — 19-of-19 with two aces.
“Our attack was more aggressive tonight and several players got involved in the offense,” Basler said. “We moved well defensively for the second night in a row. With the exception of a few mental lapses in games two and three, we served-received well.”
The Bobcats won the JV contest in two sets. Hoquiam beat Aberdeen in a C squad match.
Aberdeen returns to Evergreen 2A Conference action tonight at Centralia.
Gulls fall in three
RAYMOND — Life Christian Academy remained unbeaten in Pacific League competition by sweeping Raymond, 25-14, 25-20, 25-22, on Wednesday.
“We played absolutely horrible,” Raymond coach Bob Swogger noted.
The Gulls (1-1, 6-2) visit North Beach on Tuesday.
GIRLS SOCCER
Wildcats 3, Indians 2
TOLEDO – Ocosta came away with a late goal to pull out a Central League victory against Toledo on Wednesday.
The Wildcats (4-4, 4-6) first got on the scoreboard when Teal Mitby scored on a pass from Katelynn Denny in the second minute to get the offense rolling early.
Denny picked up another assist when her corner kick sent the ball into the box where Kennedy Merino finished the play in the 23rd minute.
The Indians fought back before halftime and scored a goal in the 31st minute to cut the lead in half and scored again when the defense misplayed a ball in their own end.
The Wildcats tightened up defensivly and came up with the game-wining goal in the 65th minute when Denny got a goal of her own on a pass from Kjirstin Hopfer.
“It was one of our best passing games in recent memory,” said assistant coach Rissy Ness.
Head coach Mike King was not on the sidelines for the first time in 18 years as he was in Sunnyside for the birth of his first grandchild.
Ocosta will take on Christian Life Academy at home on Monday.
