OYEHUT — Steven Sotomish hit a 3-point shot in the final second to give North Beach a dramatic win over Raymond in Pacific 2B League boys basketball on Wednesday at “The House of Pain.”
Down by 15 early in the third quarter, Raymond rallied behind the scoring of Marcus Anderson and Taevon Hubbard and tighter defense to lead by three with about 30 seconds remaining.
North Beach’s Marcus Pope tied it with a 3-pointer and the Gulls turned it over on the next possession.
Despite being double-teamed, Sotomish knocked down a three from the right wing for the win.
“He had two guys all over him,” Hyak coach Larry Moore said. “I didn’t think he was going to make it.”
“We defended it really well,” Raymond coach Mike Tully agreed. “We knew he was going to get the ball. We made sure he didn’t get a clear look. We were all over him, but he’s a good player and made a tough shot.”
Sotomish finished with 22 points and five assists. Pope had 17 points and Ben Poplin contributed nine rebounds for the Hyaks (5-7, 6-10).
Anderson and Hubbard finished with 14 points apiece. Kedrick Collins grabbed seven rebounds and Kaci Phansisay handed out four assists for the Gulls (4-8, 6-10).
