2A District IV Tournament
Aberdeen 2, Ridgefield 1
The Aberdeen Bobcats boys soccer team will enter the state playoffs and a No. 3 seed after defeating Ridgefield 2-1 in the third-place game of the 2A District IV Tournament on Saturday in Ridgefield.
In a game that Aberdeen head coach Larry Fleming dubbed a “physical, well-played match by both teams,” it was the Bobcats (13-4-1 overall) that struck first.
In the 22nd minute, Romeo Sanchez scored on a rebound after a Miguel Martinez’s corner kick to the box was mishandled by the Ridgefield goalkeeper.
After Ridgefield tied the game in the 54th minute, Aberdeen regained the lead when Angel Sanchez headed in a corner kick from Martinez in the 64th minute.
With the Spudders (9-11) pushing for the tying goal late in the game, Aberdeen’s defense — led by Christian Sanchez, Logan Sias, Christian Harp and Angel Sanchez — held Ridgefield without a shot to secure the victory.
“Our boys played tough in a physical match and persevered through some difficult situations,” Fleming said. “(They) came out with a huge win for our program and league.”
Aberdeen will enter the 2A State Tournament as the district’s No. 3 seed and will play Liberty (9-7-2) at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Liberty High School.

2B District IV Tournament
Ocosta 7, Rainier 4
The Ocosta Wildcats took third place in the 2B District IV Tournament with a 7-4 victory over Rainier on Saturday at WF West High School.
Ocosta (20-4) wasted little time getting to work, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning. With two on and two out, Wildcats outfielder Jayden Matthews got Ocosta on the board with an RBI single. After Carlos Martinez scored on a passed ball to double Ocosta’s lead, sophomore Kjirstin Hopfer laced a line-drive single to left field, scoring Matthews and Sevilla to put the Wildcats up 4-0.
“That was a turning point in the game,” Ocosta head coach Mike Allton said of Hopfer’s clutch hit. “That was a big spark that really kind of rattled (Rainier).”
Rainier (17-7) rallied with a pair of runs in each of the third and fourth innings to cut the Ocosta lead to 5-4.
But Ocosta got some insurance when Colby Scheuber singled to score Kobe Beck and was followed by Cole Hatton scoring a run on a balk by Mountaineers pitcher Ricky Cruse.
”Every time Rainier battled back, we answered,” Allton said. “(Ocosta pitcher) Cole Hatton did a great job keeping them at bay.”
Hatton earned the victory, allowing two earned runs on nine hits with 10 strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings pitched.
Scheuber relieved Hatton in the seventh and recorded the final two outs to pick up the save.
Ocosta will enter the 2B regional round as the district’s third seed and will face Crosspoint (13-6), which defeated Concrete 9-2 to claim the No. 2 seed out of the 2B District I/II Tournament. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday at Adna High School.

PREP SOFTBALL
Adna 11, Montesano 8
A 10-run inning bit the Bulldogs for the second game in a row as Montesano fell to Adna 11-8 in a non-league contest on Friday at Adna High School.
In its second to last tune-up game ahead of the district playoffs, Monte led 4-0 after one inning and 8-0 heading to the bottom of the fourth.
But the Bulldogs saw their comfortable lead evaporate as Adna (19-1), the state’s top-ranked team in the 2B section, opened the inning with four consecutive walks against Monte starter Lindsay Pace.
Monte (15-3) led 8-3 with two outs in the inning, but five consecutive hits — four of them for extra bases — gave the Pirates a 10-8 lead. Adna’s Olivia Rodriguez and Karlee VonMoos each hit two-run home runs in the inning.
Monte, which was able to hold on to its lead after giving up 10 runs in the fifth inning of Monday’s one-run victory over PWV, never recovered as Adna starter Haley Rainey settled in after troubles earlier in the game hold the Bulldogs scoreless over the final three innings.
Pace and Janessa Otterstetter collected two hits in the game apiece. Monte had seven hits in the game, all singles.
