With six first-place finishes, the Aberdeen Bobcats placed second overall at the Grays Harbor Championships boys wrestling meet on Saturday, Dec. 18, at Sam Benn Gym in Aberdeen.
While Aberdeen dominated the lower weight classes, it was 2A Bremerton that won the titles in the mid-weights.
The Bobcats placed second behind Bremerton 279.5-250, led by weight-class victories from Talatheon Warness (106 pounds), Michael Hatton (113), Joel Nelson (120), Drew Lock (126), Jack Dore (138) and Eric Hayter-Ramsey (285).
Four of Aberdeen’s championship-match wins ended via pinfall.
Warness pinned Franklin Pierce’s Sirvanny Pich-Heng just 20 seconds into their 106 final.
Hatton and Aberdeen teammate Tyler Caskey battled for two rounds before Hatton earned the fall at 3:26 of the match.
Similarly, Nelson pinned teammate Jayden Velazquez 50 seconds into the third round.
Hayter-Ramsey impressed in his victory over Derryck Wallace, using his fleet-footed athleticism to gain positional advantages over Wallace in earning a pinfall victory at 3:10 of the match.
Lock won a highly-competitive match against Shelton’s Tyler Fleshman that went the distance, earning a 10-6 victory on points in the 126 final.
Dore won via a 6-1 decision over teammate Shayne Glowacki to take the 138 class title.
Bremerton won seven individual crowns, taking titles in the 132 and 145-195 weight classes.
Several Twin Harbors-area squads — including Montesano, Elma and Willapa Harbor — did not attend the event due to various COVID and non-COVID-related issues.
North Beach had two wrestlers — Westin Fruh and Johnny Jerome, advance to their respective class championship match, with Jerome dominating Ty Lacy of Shelton to earn the win via fall 34 seconds into the second round.
After Bremerton and Aberdeen, Franklin Pierce (126 points), Shelton (122.5), North Beach (61), Hoquiam (51) and Ocosta (44) finished third through seventh in the final team standings.

Raymond 62, Tenino 44
After a high-scoring first half, Raymond’s defense stepped up and shut down the Tenino Beavers to earn a 62-44 victory on Saturday, Dec. 18, in Raymond.
Led by 1A Evergreen League co-MVP Ashley Schow’s 21 points, Tenino (5-2 overall) took a 35-31 lead at the half thanks in large part to five 3-pointers, three by Schow alone.
But Raymond (6-1) increased the defensive pressure in the second half, holding the Beavers to just two points in the third quarter and four field goals over the final 16 minutes of the game.
“Once we figured out that you have to actually guard someone and compete and win every individual matchup our team was able to pull away,” Raymond head coach Jason Koski said. “Super happy for our kids to meet and accept the challenge that Tenino presented to us.”
Raymond guard Kyra Gardner had another dominant performance, scoring 38 points — 21 in the second half — to go along with nine steals, six rebounds and four assists.
Freshman Karsyn Freeman scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds as Raymond outrebounded a Tenino team that features two 6-footers 26-21.
