Black Hills 1, Aberdeen 1 (Black Hills wins 3-2 on penalty kicks)

Playing in their third overtime contest in the past four games, the Aberdeen Bobcats lost 3-2 on penalty-kicks to the Black Hills Wolves on Saturday at Stewart Field.

After a scoreless first half, Aberdeen (7-7 overall, 4-5 Evergreen 2A) fell behind in the 46th minute after Black Hills (10-5. 7-2) scored on a long shot that got past Bobcats keeper Char Gutierrez.

Five minutes later, the Bobcats knotted up the score when midfielder Elizabeth Martinez sent a through pass to Emmy Walsh, who beat the Wolves’ keeper to make it a 1-1 game.

The score remained tied until a penalty-kick shootout that saw Aberdeen’s Abbie Bradt and Walsh slot home their PK attempts.

Two of the Wolves’ PK shots clanged off the posts, but three got past Gutierrez as Black Hills took the 3-2 win on penalty kicks.

““It was a very good game defensively for our girls,” Aberdeen head coach Larry Fleming said. “Playing without (injured Aberdeen defender) Amiah Leach we still managed to shut down a high-powered offense for most of the match.”

The loss drops the Bobcats into the league’s fourth and final playoff spot with one game left in the regular season.

Aberdeen takes on Rochester at 7 tonight at Rochester High School.

Grays Harbor forfeits remaining matches

The Grays Harbor Chokers have forfeited the remaining games on its 2019 schedule, according to a source close to the team.

Grays Harbor (0-16-1) had a tumultuous season that involved head coach Alan Carloza resigning on Oct. 3 as the Chokers dealt with low roster numbers the entire season, which saw that number dwindle to eight after a 6-0 loss to Pierce College on Oct. 19.

Grays Harbor forfeits the final three matches of the season against Lower Columbia, Bellevue and Highline.
