Looking to get the most out of its weekend, the Aberdeen boys wrestling team split its squad to find success at two tournaments on Saturday.
Aberdeen sent a contingent of grapplers to the Jim Bair Invitational at Castle Rock High School.
Seven Bobcats wrestlers placed in the top five, leading Aberdeen to a second-place finish in the team standings behind host Castle Rock, which had a total of 24 wrestlers at the tournament while limiting the other 18 teams in the field to 14 (one wrestler per weight class).
Aberdeen’s Talatheon Warness placed first in the 106-pound class while Mikey Hatton (126) and Aiden Watkins (152) placed second in their respective classes.

Elma 69, Raymond 54
Elma got balanced scoring to pick up a 69-54 win over Raymond in a non-league contest on Saturday at Raymond High School.
The Eagles (8-4 overall) led 17-12 after the first quarter against the Seagulls (7-6) but exploded for 26 points in a wild second quarter.
Elma shot 13 of 21 from the field in the period, led by senior forward Gibson Cain’s 10 points and seven from junior guard Cason Seaberg.
The Eagles needed it as Raymond hit five 3-pointers in the frame — four in consecutive possessions — but still trailed by 14 points at halftime.
“Roadrunner versus the coyote in this one. Wow! What a game of cat and mouse,” Elma head coach Matt Ferrier said. “Every one of those threes were followed by an answer bucket from us.”
In the second half, Elma continued to share the ball well and got a big quarter from junior forward AJ Holmes, who scored 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting in the period.
Elma had the game in hand 59-41 entering the fourth quarter, and outscored the shorthanded Seagulls by three points in the final period to secure the win.
Holmes led Elma with 24 points, eight rebounds and two assists.
Seaberg (19 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals) and Cain (12 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals) also scored in double figures for an Elma team that shot 30 of 65 from the floor (46.1%).
The Eagles dished out 18 assists as a team led by sophomore point guard Traden Carter with four.
“Extremely proud of how well we moved the basketball versus the zone. We are starting to see openings, we are starting to make the reads and starting to be very comfortable attacking the zone,” Ferrier said. “Biggest thing is how unselfish we are starting to become. The kids are getting excited when others are hitting shots.”
Raymond shot 36% from the field on 21-of-58 shooting, led by senior guard Morgan Anderson’s 22 points on 9-of-18 shooting (50%), nine rebounds and five assists.
“I would call our game against Elma a productive loss. Before the game, I told the guys that I just wanted to see them compete. They did exactly that,” Raymond head coach Mike Tully said. “Elma is an athletic, physical team and I was happy with how we played. Hopefully, we can work on some of the things that we struggled with and apply them to some of the big league games we have coming up.”
Seagulls senior Jarrod Gunderson scored 12 points while junior center Talan Yearout led Raymond with eight rebounds.
Raymond plays at South Bend at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
Elma hosts Montesano at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
