Elma let a fourth-quarter lead slip away in a 56-53 loss to Dallas (Oregon) on Saturday at the Seaside Tournament in Seaside, Oregon.

The Eagles (5-3) led 36-31 entering the fourth quarter, but mistakes and miscues led to Elma being outscored 20-12 in the final period to suffer its second-consecutive loss of the tournament.

“We had plenty of opportunities to win this game, but more miscues and bad decision making killed us in the fourth quarter,” Elma head coach Matt Ferrier said. “There was a reason why they outscored us in the fourth quarter — we tried to be fancy, we tried to be pretty, and we missed some easy ones.”

Elma was led by junior guard Cason Seaberg with 17 points to go along with nine rebounds.

Gibson Cain (11 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists) and AJ Holmes (10 points, 3 rebounds 3 steals) also scored in double figures for the Eagles.

Elma’s Grant Vessey added two points, 10 rebounds and five assists for an Eagles team that shot 21 of 57 from the field (37%) but turned the ball over 20 times in the loss.

“The tournament did what is was supposed to do. We needed tough competition and we got it,” Ferrier said. “Overall, not happy losing games and neither are the boys. We will get better because of it.”

Elma will host Aberdeen at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
