Hoquiam’s Roloff, Aberdeen’s Nelson earn All-American honors
A pair of Twin Harbors prep cross country standouts just added impressive accolades to their resumés.
Hoquiam High School state champion Jane Roloff and Aberdeen senior Henry Nelson each earned high school All-American honors after placing in the top 25 at the United States Track & Field National Junior Olympics Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville, Kentucky.
Roloff ran the 5,000-meter course in 19:32.61. The result was the 18th best out of 114 of the top prep girls cross-country runners the nation has to offer and placed her sixth overall in the 17-18 age group.
Nelson ran a time of 17:14.05 to place 23rd overall in the boys 15-18 division and 34th overall in a field of 118 of the best prep runners in the country.
The top 25 runners in each age group earn All-American status.

BOYS PREP WRESTLING
Aberdeen places fifth at Puyallup tournament
With three first-place finishes, Aberdeen’s boys wrestling team placed fifth overall at the Wilfong Classic on Saturday at Puyallup High School.
The Bobcats had six grapplers earn a podium spot in the 14-team meet, led by Talatheon Warness, Aidan Watkins and Erick Silviera, each of whom won their respective weight classes.
Warness defeated Kent Meridian’s Elyas Karimi by sudden victory to place atop the podium in the 113-pound class.
Watkins dominated his four opponents on Saturday, claiming the 157-pound title with a pinfall win at 3:43 over Tumwater’s Mekhi Richardson.
Silveira mastered the 165-pound weight class when he defeated Kent Meridian’s Jackson Esemann via fall at 3:53.
Aberdeen’s Mikey Hatton placed second at 150 pounds, Paul Baltazar was third at 285, and Jaidon Williams placed fifth at 126.
The Bobcats scored 148.5 points to place fifth in the team standings.
Orting won with 212.5 points followed by Kent Meridian (193.5), Emerald Ridge (169.5) and Shelton (162).

Hoquiam 48, North Beach 18
Hoquiam eight head-to-head matchups to earn a 48-18 victory over North Beach in a dual meet on Wednesday in Hoquiam.
Weight-class match results are as follows:
113 pounds: Justice Larsson (Hoquiam) won via fall over Coleten Buck (North Beach), 0:35.
120: Alex Perez (H) won via fall over Liam Kunkle (NB), 2:50.
132: Hayden Strong (NB) won via fall over M. Arreola-Garza (H), 2:54.
138: Kingston Case (H) won via fall over Wyeland Lomedico (NB), 5:34.
144: Fuentelsaz Requena (H) won via fall over Adam Lockard (NB), 1:44.
150: Jacob Baudot (H) won via fall over Mason Holt (NB), 1:56.
165: Casimir Stern (NB) won via fall over Winston Kaikaka (NB), 1:46.

Hoquiam’s Bryson wins a Foss tournament
Hoquiam’s Oliver Bryson won his weight class at the Willie C. Stewart Tournament on Saturday at Foss High School in Tacoma.
Bryson defeated Lincoln (Seattle) grappler Finn Glanville via fall at 0:38 to win the 190-pound weight class.
Other placers for Hoquiam were Kingston Case (138 pounds, 3rd), Junior Soto (120, 3rd), Ulises Morelia (120, 6th) and Justice Larsson (113, 2nd).
Hoquiam placed ninth overall with 99.5 points out of 13 teams.
BOYS PREP SWIMMING
Aberdeen third overall at Mark Morris Sprint Pentathlon
Led by senior Tyler Bates, Aberdeen placed third overall at the 13th Annual Sprint Pentathlon on Saturday at Mark Morris High School in Longview.
Bates finished seventh overall with 63 points over his five events to lead the Bobcats to 183 points as a team.
Aberdeen placed third overall behind Camas (466 points) and Mountain View (211).
Bates finished fifth in the 25-yard individual medley (13.39), fourth in the 50 freestyle (24.03), ninth in the 25 butterfly (13.81), fifth in the 100 backstroke (1:04.07) and eighth in the 25 breaststroke (17.09).
Aberdeen junior Jacob Hallak placed 21st overall in the approximate 100 competitor field with 39 points.
Other Aberdeen competitors were Tyson Powell (27 points, 27th), Zeke Olson (26, 28th), Denny Linker (19, 31st) and Austin Weiss (9, 52nd).
“It may have been storming outside, but the Bobcats were calm and competitive today,” Aberdeen head coach Rob Burns said. “This was the first chance to see some of the schools we will be competing against in districts and we performed well overall.”
Fort Vancouver’s Tarik Kurta won the individual title with 92 points.
Aberdeen faces 3A Kelso for a non-league dual meet on Tuesday in Kelso.
MEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL
Chokers beat Northwest Indian for first win of season
Grays Harbor College won for the first time this season after defeating Northwest Indian College 77-71 on Saturday in Bellingham.
The Chokers (1-10 overall) were led by Josh Adamsel Jr., who scored 34 points on 13-of-28 shooting (46%) and hit 10-of-14 free throws (71%) to go along with nine rebounds.
Adamsel scored 11 straight points for the Chokers over the final 1:25 of the second half to secure the comeback victory.
GHC was down 70-62 with 2:18 to go before a run got the Chokers back in the game, with Adamsel converting a layup with 27 seconds left to put GHC up 73-72.
Nate Campbell had 22 points for the Chokers, which shot 28-of-58 as a team (48%) and hit 15-0f-24 free throws in the game (62.5%).
The Chokers lost to Umpqua 101-72 on Friday and to Wenatchee Valley 82-74 on Sunday in the Native American Classic at the Town Toyota Center in Wenatchee.
GHC will face Big Bend at 5 p.m. on Friday in the NWAC Crossover at Whatcom Community College in Bellingham.
