Willapa Valley’s girls track and field team earned a share of the district title at the 1B District 1/2/3/4 Championship meet on Thursday at Franklin Pierce High School in Clover Creek.

Vikings senior Brooklyn Patrick led the way with three individual titles. Patrick won district championships in the 100 meters (12.95), the 100 hurdles (16.46 PR) and the 300 hurdles (50.24) and ran the first leg of the Vikings’ second-place 4×100 relay team.

Willapa Valley’s Sam Sheary won the shot put with a heave of 31 feet, 11 inches and placed second in the discus with a throw of 110-7, both personal-bests.

Emily Wilson won the 400 (1:02.27) with Lauren McGough placing first in the pole vault (9-0) as Willapa Valley claimed seven district titles to score 97 points as a team, tying with Mt. Vernon Christian for the team championship.

”The girls did an outstanding job today,” Willapa Valley head coach Dave Ege said. “I couldn’t be more proud of them.”

The 1B State Championship meet is scheduled to run Thursday through Saturday at Eisenhower High School in Yakima.
