Centralia Tiger Classic
CENTRALIA — The Aberdeen girls wrestling team and the Montesano boys wrestling team each finished in the top four at the Centralia Tiger Classic wrestling meet on Saturday.
The Bobcats had six wrestlers finish in the top four to rack up 122 team points and finish second behind Federal Way’s 175 points. Hoquiam finished tied with Kamiak for 15th with 36 points. North Beach tied for 27th with Bonney Lake with 15 points.
Aberdeen’s Emily Wharton was the only Bobcat to finish the day at the top of the podium with a first-round pin to win the title at 235 pounds.
“We are working hard with what we have,” HHS head coach Buck Giles said. “We’re down with injuries and eligibility to have all of our wrestlers available, so we’re working hard.”
Giles cited Elyse Goulet, Bianca Lopez and Mercedes Pinnell for their performances.
The Bulldogs had two individual champions and five wrestlers finish in the top three individually to total 114 points as a team. Battle Ground won the boys team competition with 152 points. North Beach finished in 15th place with 28 points.
Montesano’s Jacob Ellefson won the individual title at 126 pounds and Tony Williams captured the title in his first tournament of the year with a first-place finish at 138 pounds. Tyler Izatt (132) and Austin Cain (160) each took second, while Andy Fry tied for third at 106 pounds for the Bulldogs.
“We were missing four varsity scorers,” Monte coach Jeff Klinger said. “The guys that were there wrestled well. Once we get everybody shuffled around and in the lineup, we expect good things. We are young. We have some kids that have done great things in the past, but it is a brand new year and you have to put in the work.”
North Beach’s Seth Bridge won the 285-pound title with a third-round pin.

Wildcat Invitational
LA CENTER — Hoquiam’s Artimus Johnson and Lutra Felten won their weight divisions as the Grizzlies sent eight wrestlers to the Wildcat Invitational on Saturday and came away with a sixth-place finish overall.
Felten pinned Kelso’s Rolin Nugent at 2:36 for Hoquiam’s first tournament title of the day at 106 pounds. Johnson got his at 182 when he pinned Kelso’s Blake Fowler at 1:21.
“Overall, I was fairly pleased with everyone’s performance,” HHS head coach T.J. Helland said.
Andres Vasquez (132) took third, while Malaki Eaton (113), Brady Cummings (152), Jordan Sears (195) and Zach Underwood (285) finished fifth in their divisions.
On Wednesday, Hoquiam boys and girls travel to Sam Benn Gym to take on Aberdeen.
Willapa Harbor at Warrenton
WARRENTON, Ore. — Capturing two titles, Willapa Harbor placed second overall in the Warrenton Invitational on Saturday.
Ilwaco took team honors with 260 points, 27 1/2 points ahead of the Willapa combine. Ten teams from Washington and Oregon competed.
Willapa Harbor’s Joseph Lewis won the 132-pound championship, pinning teammate Tristan Hamlin in the first round of the title match.
Jack Jordan pinned Clatskanie’s Travis Puckett in the third round of the 138-pound title match.
Ben Byington was Willapa Harbor’s other runner-up. He was pinned by Aaron Bruce of Rainier, Ore., in the second round of their 160-pound final.
Willapa Harbor’s Seth Angelovich (160), Jonathan Juarez (195) and Christian Anderson (285) each finished third.
“We’re pretty young, but the guys stepped up,” Willapa Harbor assistant coach John Enslow said. “We had a few fifth-place finishes that helped us out. It was a good overall team effort.”
Willapa Harbor’s Johanna Crow (170) and Grace Oatfield (132) went unbeaten in the round-robin girls tourney.
Willapa will visit Ocosta for a dual match Thursday.
Ocosta at Puyallup tourney
PUYALLUP — Ocosta’s Sam Quinby placed second at his weight in Puyallup High School’s Wilfong Classic on Saturday.
Quinby pinned his first two opponents before falling to Orting’s Bryson Anderson by technical fall, 17-1, in the 132-pound championship match.
Ocosta’s Daniel Quinby (126), Gabe Elder (160) and Kalvyn Scott (170) each tied for fifth.
Competing primarily against upper-classification schools, the Wildcats took eighth in a 14-team field.
“We were short-handed due to injury and illness, with only six wrestlers entered,” Ocosta coach Kevin Goodrich reported. “All the kids wrestled well against big-school competition.
The Wildcats host Willapa Harbor on Thursday.
