Longshore Hawks win Pete Orzelle Memorial
WINLOCK — Using a combination of players from other area senior baseball teams, Grays Harbor Longshore Hawks rolled through the three-day RBI Pete Orzelle Memorial Tournament for the overall championship on Sunday at Winlock High School.
Due to summer football camps, the Longshore Hawks picked up players from Aberdeen High School, South Beach Mavericks and Willapa Harbor to fill in the roster. The Aberdeen Black Cats also played in the tournament and finished 2-1-1 on the weekend.
“Everyone played very well, especially for the first time being together,” Longshore Hawks coach Rusty Standstipher said.
Grays Harbor knocked off Skyview-Vancouver, 6-4, in the title game. Austin Timmons threw for 4 1/3 innings before an injury prompted Cub Bair to come in and finish on the mound. Timmons got the win and Bair got the three-inning save.
