The Class of 2018 for Aberdeen and Hoquiam high schools will graduate on Friday night. The Aberdeen ceremony is at 6 p.m. at Stewart Field, while Hoquiam commencement is at 8 p.m. at Olympic Stadium. The National Weather Service is forecasting a 60 percent chance of rain Friday night with temperatures in the 50s. Here is a look at the Top Scholars who will be honored by Hoquiam High School. Aberdeen High School’s Top Scholars appeared in Wednesday’s edition of The Daily World.
Ryan Cole
Ryan is the son of Randy and Jean Cole. He is co-valedictorian for the Class of 2018 with a 4.0 grade-point average. He plans to attend Grays Harbor College to earn his A.S. and then transfer to Eastern Washington University to earn a B.S. and a dental hygienist license. While at HHS, he lettered in both golf and soccer. Ryan is a member of the HHS chapter of the National Honor Society. He participated in Knowledge Bowl, drumline, Three o’clock Jazz Band, and as a Band Buddy mentor. Ryan received the Coaches Award for Golf and was recognized as a Lions Club Student of the Month for October.
Mariah Fuller
Mariah is the daughter of Bill and Tanja Fuller. She is co-valedictorian for the Class of 2018 with a 4.0 GPA. She plans to attend Saint Martin’s University to pursue a teaching degree. She lettered in band for the past four years and has served as drum major for the past two years. Mariah participated in jazz band, concert band, and was a Band Buddy mentor. She was recognized as an outstanding band member in 2017. She has been president of the HHS chapter of the National Honor Society and was recognized as a Lions Club Student of the Month for September.
Karlie Krohn
Karlie is the daughter of Shane and Jen Krohn. She is ranked third in her class with a 3.985 GPA. She plans to attend Washington State University, where she will study veterinary science. She is a four-year letterman for volleyball, basketball and track. She is involved in HOPE Squad-Suicide Prevention Team and Grizzly Fusion Mentoring Program. She has been vice president of the HHS chapter of the National Honor Society. She was queen of the Hoquiam Loggers Playday Court, and HHS Homecoming Queen. Karlie has volunteered for Hoquiam Loggers Playday, the food bank, Little Dribblers and HMS track. She received awards from WIAA Outstanding Scholastic Award in volleyball, basketball and track, most valuable player in basketball and most improved in track.
Jessica Goulet
Jessica is the daughter of Randy and Brenda Goulet. She is fourth in her class with a 3.962 GPA. She plans to attend the University of Washington and is interested in environmental science, wildlife conservation and organizational management/leadership. She has been a Safeway employee since 2017. Jessica has been in the Leadership class and is the ASB executive president. She is a member of the HHS chapter of the National Honor Society, FBLA, color guard and Knowledge Bowl. She was co-chair for HHS blood drive and Food Ball and has participated in soccer and cross country. Jessica received awards for most inspirational for cross country and most improved for soccer. She was recognized as a Lions Club Student of the Month.
Jake Gordon
Jake is the son of Lance and Laurie Gordon. He is ranked fifth in his class with a 3.905 GPA. He plans to attend Washington State University to earn a degree in engineering. He is a three-year letterman for football and track. He has participated in Leadership class and is a member of the HHS chapter of The National Honor Society. Jake has been recognized as a Lions Club Student of the month, grand honor roll, two Grizzly Awards, the DAR Award and HMS Principal’s Award.
Dylan Bumstead
Dylan is the son of Lewis and Jamie Bumstead. He will graduate sixth in his class with a 3.904 GPA. He is a Running Start student at Grays Harbor College and will graduate in June with an associate’s degree. In the fall, he plans to attend South Puget Sound Community College. His career goal is to become a professional chef and own his own Italian restaurant. Dylan has participated in HHS marching band, drum line and golf. He is a member of the HHS chapter of the National Honor Society. He was on the President’s Honor list for Grays Harbor College. He was recognized as CTE Student of the Month and Lions Club Student of the Month.
Giselle Lopez Colarte
Giselle is the daughter of Johannes Facchen and Maria Colarte. She is ranked seventh in her class with a 3.873 GPA. She plans to attend the University of Washington, where she will study journalism or media production. Before she moved to Hoquiam, she was involved in a photography club. Giselle will be graduating a year early.
Daisy Garcia-Rivera
Daisy is the daughter of Manuel Garcia and Maria Rivera-Torres. She is eighth in her class with a 3.848 GPA. She plans to attend Saint Martin’s University or Grays Harbor College and then transfer to a four-year college. She is planning a career in biochemistry and will pursue a future career in cancer or medical research. Daisy is a member of the HHS chapter of the National Honor Society and is currently treasurer. She received a Grizzly Award in 2017.
Sunshine dick
Sunshine is the daughter of Amy Dick. She is ninth in her class with a 3.807 GPA. She plans to attend Washington State University, where she will study business with plans to complete an MBA. She is a four-year letterman for volleyball. Sunshine is involved in GPS (Grizzly Prevention Squad), My Town Coalition, ASL advisory board, Hoquiam Loggers Playday court, FCCLA and Food Ball. She was recognized as a CTE Student of the Month and Lions Club Student of the Month. Sunshine received a Grizzly Award in 2017.
Josie Emery
Josie is the daughter of Clayton and Kelly Emery. She will graduate 10th in her class with a 3.8 GPA. She plans to attend Central Washington University to become a physician’s assistant. Josie is a three-year letterman in cheerleading, two-year letterman in golf, and a one-year letterman in fastpitch and volleyball. She received the Coach’s Award, second team all-league in golf. Josie was recognized as a Lions Club Student of the Month, an Elk’s scholarship recipient and was queen of the Hoquiam Loggers Playday Court.
Mercedes Pinnell
Mercedes is the daughter of Andrea Pinnell and the late Richard Pinnell. She is 11th in her class with a 3.793 GPA. She plans to attend Washington State University and double major in psychology and design. Mercedes was involved in cheerleading, wrestling, volleyball, track, Grizzly Fusion and the Hope Squad. She is a member of the HHS chapter of the National Honor Society. Mercedes was recognized for Academic All-State honorable mention 2016-2017 and the President’s Education Award for Educational Achievement.
Myka Wayman
Myka is the daughter of Michael and Jody Wayman. She will graduate 12th in her class with a 3.683 GPA. She plans to attend Grays Harbor College for two years and then transfer to a four-year university. Myka is planning a career in social services. She was involved in volleyball, drama club, FCCLA, GPS (Grizzly Prevention Squad) and Food Ball. She is a member of the HHS chapter of the National Honor Society. Myka was recognized as a Lions Club Student of the Month.
Julie Kim
Julie is the daughter of Soun and Kumja Kim. She is ranked 13th in her class with a 3.672. She is planning on participating in a youth mission with YWAM after graduation. Julie plans to pursue a career as a therapist. She is involved in drama club, golf, cross country, ASL, GPS (Grizzly Prevention Squad) and My Town Coalition. She is a member of the HHS chapter of the National Honor Society and received a Grizzly Award in 2017.
Chloe Graham-Briscoe
Chloe is the daughter of John and Monica Briscoe. She is 14th in her class with a 3.636 GPA. She plans to attend Grays Harbor College for two years to study business and then transfer to a four-year university. She was involved in marching band, concert band, Grizzly Fusion, Hope Squad, ASL advisory board, and was a Band Buddy mentor. Chloe is a Domino’s employee. She has received awards for most improved in volleyball, solo ensemble and academic awards.
Tanner McElliott
Tanner is the son of Mike and Kim Pirianian and Larry and Kellie McElliott. He is 15th in his class with a 3.54 GPA. He plans to attend Central Washington University to study pre-dietetics and kinesiology. He plans to become a physical education teacher/health and wellness. He earned a letter in track and field. Tanner participated in cross country and Food Ball. He is a member of the HHS chapter of the National Honor Society and has been recognized with outstanding scholastic awards, Coach’s Awards, and Captain’s Awards. Tanner was recognized as a Lions Club Student of the Month.
Sean McAllister
Sean is the son of Robby and Diana McAllister. He is 16th in his class with a 3.507 GPA. He will attend Grays Harbor College to study psychology and sociology. He plans to become a teacher or school counselor. He participated in Food Ball, Leadership and Renaissance Club. He is a four-year letterman in football and baseball and a one-year letterman in drama. Sean was recognized as a Lions Club Student of the Month and received a Grizzly Award and academic awards.
Kamimi Papp
Kamimi is the daughter of Nelson and Mary Papp. She will graduate 17th in her class with a 3.507 GPA. She plans to attend Grays Harbor College and then transfer to the University of Washington. She plans to become a dermatologist and also plans to further her scuba certifications so that she can study sharks and assist in saving the coral reef. Kamimi was involved in ASB, Leadership, FCCLA, Food Ball and youth basketball and fastpitch camps. She is a two-year letterman in basketball, a three-year letterman in volleyball and a four-year letterman in fastpitch. She was recognized as a Lions Club Student of the Month and received League MVP and first-team all-league for volleyball. She also received first- and second-team all-state for fastpitch.
