Event will feature helicopter, emergency vehicles at Aberdeen High Tuesday

Program to educate students about the impact of impaired driving

Flashing lights, sirens and a rescue helicopter will be seen and heard at Aberdeen High School Tuesday, but it’s all a drill, part of the region’s Every 32 Minutes program.

The schedule is still being finalized, but county traffic safety coordinator Susan Bradbury said there will be a mock crash “with a large scale emergency response” at 10:20 a.m.

Parents of Aberdeen students will get a phone call from the district in advance of Tuesday’s program. “We don’t want to cause any unnecessary concern that a real emergency is happening at the school,” said Bradbury. “We have also contacted St. Mary School hoping they will advise their parents.”

The Every 32 Minutes program shows students and educators the impact of impaired driving; across the country, a person dies as the result of an impaired driving accident about every 32 minutes.
