Proud Nebraska native Goldie Helen Palmer passed away Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2018, at Riverside Place in Hoquiam, Wash. She was 93. Goldie was born on Nov. 27, 1924, to Peter and Calista (Mills) Raveling in Hildreth, Neb. She graduated from Franklin High School and earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education from Kearney State Teaching College. Now known as the University of Nebraska. It was in college she became a life member of Beta Sigma Phi.
Though Nebraska was always home, Goldie moved to the Grays Harbor area in 1955. It was here she met John Warner and they wed on April 23, 1958.
Goldie spent her life giving back to the community. She was employed as a teacher with the Aberdeen School district for 35 years, Aberdeen Neighborhood Housing Authority for 25 years, and served on the Camp Fire Girls Board in 1970.
In her down time Goldie enjoyed sewing, canning pickled herring, gardening, and attending activities at the Hoquiam Elks Lodge. She was a member of the Thousand Trails Camping Society and Trinity Lutheran Church (Amazing Grace Lutheran Church). However, most of all Goldie enjoyed spending time with her family. She shared her love of language and playing cards with her children and grandchildren. They will cherish the many memories sitting around a card table with her.
Goldie is survived by her children John W. Palmer Jr. of Monroe, Wash., Patricia (Don) Shelton of Eatonville, Wash. and Mary (David) Richards of Hoquiam, Wash.; grandchildren Christopher Shelton, Amanda Shelton, Patrick Shelton, Jason Boerner, April Gann, and Sean Palmer; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband John Warner and granddaughter Ericka Richards.
Goldie will be remembered for her fast wit and every teaching ways.
A viewing will be held on Monday, Aug. 27, 2018, from 10-11:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Harrison Family Mortuary, 311 W. Market St., Aberdeen.
She will be laid to rest at Fern Hill Cemetery in Aberdeen.
