The Hoquiam Grizzlies remain undefeated on the season with a homecoming blowout victory and the Aberdeen Bobcats are no longer winless as we take a look at the Week 5 high school football action for Twin Harbors area teams.
Hoquiam 48, Tenino 12
Hoquiam quarterback Payton Quintanilla had over 300 yards passing and the Grizzlies had nearly 500 yards of offense as they downed Tenino, 48-12, on homecoming night, Friday at Olympic Stadium.
Playing the part of a poised field general, Quintanilla picked apart the Beavers defense, going 20-for-25 for 304 yards and three touchdown passes for a Grizzlies team that totaled 492 yards of offense on the night.
“His growth from last year to this season has been tremendous,” Hoquiam head coach Jeremy McMillan said of his signal-caller. “It’s a lot of fun having a guy like that on the team.”
Sophomore wide receiver Dane McMillan was Quintanilla’s main target on the evening, catching seven passes for a team-high 133 yards.
Hoquiam (5-0, 1-0 Evergreen 1A) opened the scoring when senior receiver Jonah Doll caught a 19-yard TD pass from Quintanilla with two minutes to go in the first quarter to give the Grizzlies a 7-0 lead.
Hoquiam took a 21-0 lead into the half and put the game away with a 27-point third quarter.
Malaki Eaton led the way for Hoquiam’s ground attack, rushing three times for 64 yards and a touchdown. Matt Brown had 43 yards and two TDs on just four carries and Antonio Garcia had 21 yards and a touchdown run on three carries for the Grizzlies.
Hoquiam’s first-team defense stuffed Tenino (0-5, 0-1), intercepting Beavers quarterback Karl Hisaw four times, including two by Jackson “Mr. Interception” Folkers, who now has six on the season.
McMillan stated the theme in practice for the Grizzlies ahead of the homecoming game was “discipline.”
“We tried to minimize the any distractions and no overlook Tenino,” he said. “Just identify that our opponent tonight was ourselves. The kids really embraced that.”

Aberdeen 21, Centralia 14
A big weight was lifted from the backs of the Aberdeen Bobcats as they won their first game of the season, 21-14, against the Centralia Tigers on Friday in Centralia.
“Both teams knew it was a critical game going in,” said Aberdeen head coach Kevin Ridout regarding the Bobcats’ first 2A Evergreen league contest of the season. “It was a pretty big moment and I’m really proud of these kids.”
Centralia took a 6-0 lead into the second quarter before Aberdeen (1-4, 1-0 Evergreen 2A) took the lead on a 9-yard touchdown run from quarterback Ben Dublanko, capping a drive that included a 50-yard double-pass play from Elijah Brown to Cameron Hochstetler.
After the half, the Bobcats would extend their lead when Dillen Espana caught a Dublanko pass and broke five tackles on his way to a 39-yard touchdown, giving Aberdeen a 14-6 lead.
The Bobcats held onto their eight-point lead until the 6:52 mark of the fourth quarter, when Centralia tight end Alejandro Valencia scored on a 4th-and-goal touchdown pass from quarterback Tanner DeMonbrun, who then connected on a two-point-conversion pass with Shiloh GrayGundo to tie the game up at 14-14.
But on the Bobcats’ first play from scrimmage on the ensuing possession, lightning struck in the form of Wyatt Johnson. The junior wide receiver caught a Dublanko pass on a slant route, split the safeties and was gone on a 63-yard touchdown jaunt to put the Bobcats back up by a TD at 21-14.
Centralia (1-4, 0-1) had one last prayer with less than a minute left, but DeMonbrun’s 40-yard Hail Mary to the endzone was intercepted by Dublanko, giving the Bobcats their first win of the season.
When the clock hit zero, the Aberdeen bench erupted in jubilation.
“They were ecstatic,” Ridout said of his players’ reaction. “When the final buzzer sounded, they just exploded.”
Dublanko finished the evening going 11-for-14 for 216 yards and two touchdowns.
